Don’t know when this was taken, I’m a little confused – I look about 14 but I have a Prefect’s tie on. Any guesses? Now I have the 1982 photo of 5B I'm fairly confident this was taken the same day so I would in fact have been 16.

Thanks to Gareth Smith for this one, is that a cornflake on my chest? When and where was this taken? Could it have been on the coach to Italy?

15 Minutes of fame

My 15 minutes of fame came and went in 1982 when this photo appeared in the Llanelli Star. I had won a 6^th Form Scholarship to enter the RAF as an Officer Cadet.

Blimey, I now realise there was a time when I was not too fat!

I had no idea where this was taken or when so I did some detective work. We're all corporals, yeah a bunch of rankers, so it must have been between 5/11/80 and 6/11/81 - yes, I found my old Cadet service record! As these camps happened in the summer I think it safe to say it was Summer 1981.

For plane spotters, the Spitfire is a rare Mark 21, one of only 3 surviving. Do a WWW search for LA198 and you'll find it's got quite a chequered history since 1945 during which time it starred in the Battle of Britain film and was a gate guardian at RAF Locking, Avon where this photo was taken. Amazing what you can find out!

Dai Rees is in the back row, on the left, I'm on the front row on the left and Gareth Smith is second from the right in the front.
